Most people are aware that Jews are a part of Western culture.  We may live alongside people of Jewish descent.  We may work with people who practice the Jewish faith.  Although these people are very much a part of our society, many people are still puzzled about who counts as a Jew, how they came to be living among non-Jews and how to sort out all of the sects and subgroups among this very ancient people.  There is an even more intriguing question we might ask.  Given their ancient lineage and their commitment to keep their people intact for so many generations, why aren’t there more of them in the world?  I think you’ll find my answer a bit surprising.  Enjoy!
